Dwight Howard did not travel with the Washington Wizards for their two-game road trip and is scheduled to meet with a specialist.

This means that the Washington Wizards will not have Dwight Howard in their matchup tonight against the New Orleans Pelicans and for Friday’s game with the Philadelphia 76ers. With the way things are trending, I wouldn’t be surprised if he sat out for the Brooklyn Nets game on Saturday as well.

Howard is scheduled to meet with a nerve specialist out in Los Angeles to evaluate his piriformis injury. The glute issues clearly haven’t improved, which is concerning. I don’t think I’ve every seen an injury like this one.

Thomas Bryant will start in his place once again. The young center has filled in well during Howard’s absence. He doesn’t receive a significant amount of playing time, but is productive with his time on the court.

Since Howard has been out and Scott Brooks made the lineup change, the Wizards are 3-1. They are most definitely playing solid basketball and seem to have turned a corner.

On top of this, Markieff Morris has played extremely well during Howard’s time off. Even though he’s coming off the bench, the big man as played more freely, which has turned into great offensive performances.

The Hall-of-fame big man hopefully will be back sooner rather than later. Nothing seems to be going right for him at this point, especially with all the drama surrounding him off the court.

I would normally say that short-term this isn’t something to dwell on since the team has been performing well as of late, but Washington can’t afford for Howard to miss significant time since they currently stand at 8-12. Hopefully the team can continue to play well while Howard figures things out.

Morris, Bryant, and Jeff Green will have their hands full as they go up against MVP candidate Anthony Davis this evening. Brooks and the coaching staff will have to throw different schemes at Davis if they hope to somewhat contain him.
