The Washington Wizards should explore trading for Philadelphia 76ers’ Markelle Fultz. Take a chance on the future if the present isn’t so bright.

It’s no secret that the Washington Wizards have been on the brink of blowing up the team. They’ve had some recent success over the past few games, which makes things a bit more cloudy.

Both John Wall and Bradley Beal have stated that they don’t want to leave D.C., but there is a great chance that one of them lands somewhere else to finish the season. As of now, not many teams are wanting to take on John Wall’s massive contract with his absurd trade kicker. It would be easier for the team to trade him next season. This leaves Beal on the table.

The Wizards asking price for Beal may be extremely high right now, but the Philadelphia 76ers seem to be in win now mode. They would have to opportunity to make the best super-team in the East with Joel Embid, Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler, and Bradley Beal. They would just have to give up some young assets to acquire this lineup.

Of course, Markelle Fultz would be at the center of the trade. Given his recent woes with the team, it seems that he will be shipped out sometime this year anyway. There always seems to be one issue after another in relation to Fultz’s injuries.

He seems to have forgotten how to shoot the basketball all together. Especially with his new free-throw routine. A lot has gone wrong for Fultz, which is why now is the time for the Wizards to go after him.

The superstar potential is still there. The confidence and health are the issues that need to be addressed. Perhaps a change of scenery can do that for the young point guard.

Here’ how the trade would brake down:

Washington would have to get Landry Shamet in the deal since he’s proven to be a young, talented prospect. And if the team did get rid of Wall this year or next, Shamet would add more depth to the backourt.

The Wizards would have to take the contract of Wilson Chandler, which isn’t a bad thing. Acquiring the versatile big man could set things in motion to get rid of Otto Porter and his big contract.

If the Sixers threw in the draft pick it would seal the deal. It would be extremely hard for the Wizards to pass that type of offer. On the other hand, it would be hard for Philadelphia to give up that much of their future. They would have to keep in mind that Beal is only 25 years old and the sky is the limit for him.

All in all, I don’t mind the trade. If the Wizards lose a few more games and continue their woes then it wouldn’t be a bad risk to go after Fultz. He’s a player that the team could build around for years to come if he can get his shot back and remain fully healthy.
