The past couple of games the Washington Wizards have shown some signs of dare I say, life. This season could quite possibly be trending in the right direction as of late.
Yes, at the quarter mark of the season the Washington Wizards are 8-14, but things have been trending on the positive side of things. The Wizards have shown what they can be capable of when things are clicking.
The Wizards are 3-3 in their last six games with wins against the Houston Rockets, in which James Harden dropped 54, Los Angeles Clippers, and New Orleans Pelicans. The Wizards clawed their way to an overtime victory against the Rockets and the Clippers, in which they had to overcome a 20 point deficit.
Are these wins indicative of what the talented roster can do? Yes.
Washington did end up losing to the Philadelphia 76ers last night pretty badly, but they can’t win them all. Since the whole debacle at practice with John Wall and management announcing every player is now tradeable, the Wizards have responded positively with a 7-7 record. I know it’s only a .500 record and may not seem like much to most, but strides have been made.
Scott Brooks was able to mix up the staring lineup by switching Markieff Morris and Kelly Oubre Jr. Morris has averaged 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds the last 6 games off he bench for the Wizards. That’s the most any bench player has given us all season.
The change seems to be working and allowing the team to average more points per game. Yes, the Wizards need to play better on defense, perhaps that develops in the latter half of the season making us a dangerous team to face in the playoffs.
Since the Wizards have started playing better, their haven’t been any dramatic outbursts or incidents reported in the locker room. It seems as though everyone is doing what they’re supposed to be doing, simply playing basketball.
It’s quite possible that the expectations were raised since it was a wide open race to start the since due to the fact it was a Lebron-less Eastern Conference. The Wizards have seem to put that behind them for now. The focus seems different, it seems positive.
The Wizards continue on the road to take on the Brooklyn Nets in hopes of solidifying another win. Anything can happen in the Eastern Conference and Washington still believes they can compete.
The Wizards have had some things cooking for them. It’s a long season, so don’t give up just yet.
