Washington Wizards: 3 things to watch vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Lack of Wizards’ Depth
As mentioned earlier, the Wizards could find themselves pretty shorthanded on Sunday. Not only are two of their main players off the bench in Oubre and Rivers en route to Phoenix, but they may not have Ariza in time to suit up either. Coupled that with Otto Porter potentially still sitting out due to injury, and there’s very little wing depth.
If the above scenario plays out, that leaves the Wizards with Sam Dekker (who joined the team a week ago) and rookie Troy Brown Jr. (who has played a total of 75 minutes all season) as substitute swingmen. Just to fill out the roster, Okaro White and two-players Devin Robinson and Jordan McRae may also be called up from the Capital City Go-Go.
In case you hadn’t heard, James is a pretty good player and is probably salivating at the idea of going up against this squad of wings who will try to guard him. Markieff Morris has usually been the Wizards best option in the past to guard James, but the match-ups may not align in the same way as Morris has been coming in as a small-ball center this season.
Before the trade shenanigans, the Wizards may have been a position to steal one from the Lakers at home, catching James and the squad on the second half of a back-to-back (they go up against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday). Now, with an inexperienced and limited roster, the chances of pulling off a win seem less likely.
