Washington Wizards: 3 trade ideas involving Otto Porter
The trade deadline is around the corner and the Washington Wizards need to make some moves to elevate themselves in the Eastern Conference.
The bottom of the Eastern Conference is always up for grabs at the end of the season. The Washington Wizards are not far back from the 6th seed and have been making up some ground as of late.
Rumors have surfaced that Washington may shop Otto Porter more aggressively than people anticipated. I wouldn’t blame the Wizards. His contract is hefty and he’s been playing great as of late, which makes his value increase. And frankly, he’s the best trade piece that the team has right now if Bradley Beal is off the table.
Porter is playing exceptional basketball right now. He would normally be a starter in most lineups, but the Jeff Green clicked with the starting unit while Porter was out with his knee injury. For the month of January, Porter is averaging 15.8 points, 6.1 rebounds per game, and shooting 44.4% from the field.
Since John Wall’s injury, Porter has been a great complimentary piece to Beal. Contenders could benefit from his services and teams are that are in rebuild mode could use Porter to be a focal point going forward. I anticipate that the Wizards will get some intriguing offers for Porter that they should pull the trigger on.
There are going to be multiple teams that are looking to sell and buy by February 7. Washington needs to play this smart. Their bench is weak and needs improvement. A back up big man would be great, along with some addition backcourt depth.
