The Battle Rounds

Thanks to a dazzling performance in the freestyle rounds (led almost entirely by the incredible acrobatics of John Wall), Team East was already up 1-0. As a result, they dunked second in the battle rounds.

Damian Lillard vs Terrence Ross

Team West came out of the gate HOT and Lillard threw down a nasty left-handed 360. But it was his second attempt after missing on his first try. Impressive dunk, but it doesn’t have quite the same sting after an initial miss.

With the help of Drake, Ross made a king’s entrance and was able to turn a filthy between-the-legs into a win for Team East

Winner: Terrence Ross, Team East

Harrison Barnes vs Paul George

A battle round matchup that had loads of potential but never quite realized it. Barnes’ first dunk was simply lackluster. A two-handed windmill is impressive in its own right, but not enough in this competition. Especially when George came up with a vicious through-the-legs 360 that Kenny Smith rightfully called a “video game dunk.”

Winner: Paul George, Team East

Ben McLemore vs John Wall

They always say “Save the Best for Last.” Well, the 2014 Slam Dunk Contest did just that. With his slam dunk platform, McLemore took this time to announce the start of the Shaq-Lemore era. To begin his reign, McLemore dunked over Shaquille O’Neal. Then, he received a crown from the Big Diesel, himself.

But apparently, John Wall didn’t care much for Shaq-Lemore. With a spectacular two-handed, double clutch reverse, Wall secured a Team East sweep and toppled the newly-formed kingdom. Time to dougie.
