2019 NBA Draft Profile: Kevin Porter Jr.
By Ethan Smith
On the Monday of the draft week, the Washington Wizards are planning to host a workout that will include highly touted prospect Kevin Porter Jr out of the University of Southern California. Here’s everything you need to know about the west coast guard.
Draft week is here and the first-round talent is finally starting to trickle into Washington’s pre-draft workouts. Tomorrow, the Washington Wizards are reported to be hosting USC product Kevin Porter Jr. according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.
Porter may be coming out of college a year early depending on who you ask. He’d almost certainly be a top-ten pick if he spent another season as a Trojan and refined his game just a bit. But he’ll hear his name called somewhere in the first-round, regardless.
Whether or not it will be the Wizards calling his name is still yet to be determined, but it’s not likely that he’ll be Washington’s top target at #9. Now if they happen to trade back or buy into the second round, that could change. Porter isn’t expected to go in the top ten, although his talent and upside may propel him there.
Porter’s a big, strong, physical guard that isn’t afraid to take it into the teeth of the defense or take a step back three. He can sky over defenders for highlight reel dunks or hit them with a smooth euro step for an even smoother finger roll. Even if we don’t see him in Washington next season, I have a feeling we’ll see a lot of him on House of Highlights.
But he’s raw. Really raw. And he’ll need work. If the Wizards want to take on a project at the guard position, Porter could provide the best payout.
