5 Guards the Washington Wizards Could Target in Free Agency
By Ethan Smith
After a few recent moves by Tommy Sheppard, the Washington Wizards go into free agency with some new pieces. What they need to add now are some guards.
We won’t be waiting as long as usual to hear about the latest free agency signings this year.
In a new move to help give basketball fans more sleep and more sanity, free agency has been moved up from midnight on July 1 to 6 pm on June 30. So now we’ll be able to read about the new superteams at dinner instead of in the dark.
A few weeks ago, it seemed like the Washington Wizards were going to have their work cut out for them in free agency, with several unrestricted free agents, very little money to spend, and a lot of roster spots to fill. But thanks to some recent crafty moves by Tommy Sheppard, the Wizards have added six players in the past week and a half; two via the draft and four via trade.
Now, how many of those players will make the Wizards’ opening night roster is unclear. Probably not all six. Almost definitely not all six. So there’s still work to be done in free agency.
One thing that still needs addressing is the Wizards thin backcourt. Chasson Randle was not extended a qualifying offer. His time is DC is probably over. John Wall is injured. And Tomas Satoransky, although a restricted free agent, could be too expensive for the Wizards to keep.
Here are five free-agent guards the Wizards could target to help bolster their backcourt.
