How do the Rookies Look?

Like Troy Brown Jr, Rui Hachimura took last game off for rest, too. Only his absence was expected.

Despite a 14-point performance in the Summer League opener vs New Orleans, Hachimura had a lackluster debut. He did have a couple of impressive blocks, but his shooting was sub-par (37.6 percent) and the jumper looked a little flat. Luckily, he looked and shot better in game two (42.9 percent) and was aggressive in getting to the free throw line where he knocked down seven of eight attempts. After a game off, hopefully, Hachimura’s kept his best for last. Slowly but surely, the ninth overall pick is silencing his draft day doubters around DC.  Another solid showing tonight should keep the bandwagon chugging along.

In Hachimura’s absence, a couple of other players got to shine last game, including second-round pick Admiral Schofield. Schofield benefited form Hachimura’s absence and had his best game of the Summer League so far against the Clippers. His 16 points were a team-high and he did it efficiently, shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and going a percent seven for seven from the line. It’d be great to see both Schofield and Hachimura get into double figures. That’s something we haven’t seen yet.

Rookie guard and former Wizards season ticket holder Justin Robinson has quietly had a fairly impressive Summer League, proving he was worth picking up after going undrafted. He poured in 15 points on 55.9 percent shooting against the Pelicans but hasn’t matched that scoring total since. He has had multiple assists in each of the three Summer League games, though.
