How good of a player could rookie Admiral Schofield become for the Washington Wizards?
Bradley Beal shot over 40% from behind the arc last season and yet the Washington Wizards need another catch and shoot deep threat that can rain 3’s and cause a tsunami at Capital One Arena and on the road. Admiral Schofield shot over 40 percent from behind the arc during his senior season at Tennessee, but can he translate that to the NBA? If so, the Wizards might have found a franchise type of player in “The Admiral”.
Admiral Schofield is a hidden gem that I have followed since his college days at Tennessee, and believe he could be the missing piece that helps the Washington Wizards make a playoff run this upcoming season. Schofield averaged 16.5 points per game, 5.0 defensive rebounds per game and close to 1.0 steals per game during his senior season at Tennessee. And let’s not forget that Schofield shot 41 percent from behind the arc that season, too.
The game of basketball is about much more than just putting a ball in a hoop, though. What makes a player great is their ability to find open teammates, their ability to play defense, and their ability to rebound. Scoring isn’t the only thing that matters.
The Wizards have been looking for a solid defender that plays with passion and aggression similar to those of Patrick Beverley of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors. Players like Beverly and Green show that scoring isn’t necessarily important if you can defend, rebound, and set your teammates up for great looks. With his size, strength, and the ability to move his feet quickly on the floor Schofield could have a breakout rookie campaign.
“The Admiral” should get many chances this season to show Wizards nation how well he can command the defense and if “The Admiral” is the proper nickname for all of DC to chant.
