Could the Washington Wizards turn their backcourt of Bradley Beal and Isaiah Thomas into one of the NBA’s surprise dynamic duos?
Say goodbye to the big threes and hello to the dynamic duos. The NBA has shifted and this upcoming season will feature duo matchups like never before. However, the Washington Wizards aren’t new to this whole duo thing having had a dynamic duo of their own recently in John Wall and Bradley Beal. The only problem is that John Wall could miss the entire 2019-2020 season.
So what happens to the dynamic duo in Washington, now? With John Wall sidelined the Wizards will look to pair Bradley Beal with Isaiah Thomas, though questions remain about whether or not Thomas can stay healthy for an entire NBA season. Plagued by a hip injury, Thomas has been traded multiple times over the past few years. Many believe Isaiah Thomas doesn’t have much left in the tank. However, the 5′ 9″ guard is a scoring machine and could compliment Bradley Beal well if healthy.
Fans tend to have short-term memory and bail on players after rough seasons. Thomas has had a couple of those recently. On the other hand, players tend to thrive when their back is against the wall and I am hoping this is the case for Isaiah Thomas this season. Since leaving the Boston Celtics, Thomas has struggled to get the right opportunity, but with John Wall sidelined the opportunity will be there this season. Will he average 28 points per game like he did during the 2016-17 season? I am not sure. But if he can average 20 points per game and help take the attention away from Bradley Beal this duo will be successful.
We have all seen videos of Isaiah Thomas this summer training, playing pick-up games, and looking like the Isaiah Thomas that was once at the center of MVP conversations. Wizards fans are hoping this duo can take the league by surprise and compete for a playoff spot. The opportunity is there and on October 23, Wizards fans will get their first look at this year’s new dynamic duo.
How will it rank with the duos around the NBA?
