Washington Wizards: Early road trip could make or break season
The Washington Wizards start their season on the road and will see some tough competition against their early opponents.
The schedule has been released and the Washington Wizards their first three games will be on the road. They’ll face off against the Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and San Antonio Spurs. It could be an early 3-0 road trip or winless trip west. Anything could happen.
The good thing is there are 82 games a season and they can turn it around even if they start out rough. Bradley Beal, Isaiah Thomas, and rookie Rui Hachimura will need to make some noise early on if the Wizards want to start the year with some wins.
They will need Hachimura to be solid and contribute from day one but also learn on the fly in the NBA. Otherwise, this team could fall flat early on with a lack of scoring options. Isaiah Thomas will need to be Isaiah Thomas from his Boston Celtics days (or something close) and Bradley Beal needs to, well, just start where he left off last season.
This team has potential, but we don’t know where the scoring will come from if it’s not coming from Beal.
2019-20 Predictions
Although anything can happen in the NBA, there are a few games the Wizards can probably count on losing to simply due to the talent discrepancy: Golden State Warriors, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Denver Nuggets to name a few. Every game will be a test for this Wizards team, but games against the contenders should give us an idea of whether this WIzards team could be anything close to a contender once John Wall returns.
I’m predicting the Wizards will go 42-40 and just miss out on the playoffs. Expect Hachimura to impress early and often as he progresses nicely throughout his rookie season. Second-round pick Admiral Schofield will shock the rest of the NBA and prove to be the steal of the 2019 NBA draft.
