“I still have two years on my deal, so I’m not in no type of rush,” – Bradley Beal on the state of his contract extension

Whether you believe this one or not is totally up to you, and I wouldn’t blame you for not believing a guy who says he hasn’t thought about a $115 million contract. But Beal seemed truly unbothered by questions about his plans to sign or not sign the extension recently offered to him by Washington Wizards.

Beal, though, seems to understand that judging the Wizards by how things look right now probably isn’t the best way to do it. For now, he’s still under contract for two more years. And with all the organizational change this offseason, it will take some time to see where this team is heading.

With a drastically new front office in place and plans to build a new franchise-wide culture from the ground up, Beal will have to be patient. Even more patient that he’s already been in his eight up and down seasons with the Wizards.

“It will be a year of patience and a year of learning and a year of growing,” Beal said about his expectations. Those expectations were echoed almost verbatim by one of the newest Wizards, Moritz Wagner. “It’s going to be a year of patience. A year of improvement.”

Hearing from the man himself that he’s willing to wait things out, or at least isn’t in a hurry to make a decision quite yet, should be a welcome sign that he understands what’s going on in the Wizards organization. He might even be on board for the long-term already, despite an unsigned extension.
