“I’m just looking forward to playing,” – Isaiah Thomas

So are we, Isaiah. So are we.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Isaiah Thomas play healthy, meaningful basketball games. And he knows that. Thomas mentioned several times during media day that it’s been nearly two full seasons since he’s played a healthy season of basketball. When he did, he was MVP-caliber. Since then, not so much.

But Thomas finally feels healthy. Of course, that’s the -classic media day mantra. Plus, he’s technically sidelined with an injury right now. However, he is the lightest he’s been since his college days, and that should literally lighten the load on a body that’s now seen a ton of mileage in the NBA. At this point, any little bit helps if it will keep him on the court.

Thomas was brought in to help at an already thin position, so it doesn’t help that he’s heading into training camp with an injury. But he seems to be embracing his role as a veteran mentor on a very young team. Brooks relayed a story about IT being at practice facilities at 7:30 am to “set an example for the young guys.” Even if Thomas can’t capture some of that Celtic magic from 2017, he’ll be a wealth of knowledge and a pillar of professionalism for a team full of inexperience.
