Washington Wizards: Offseason acquisitions could add needed value
By Jack Skolnik
Isaiah Thomas
Coming over in free agency on a league-minimum deal, Isaiah Thomas will be the Wizards’ biggest wildcard. The biggest reason for this is Thomas’s health. Outside of his current thumb injury, Thomas has claimed that he is fully healthy. However, his injury history leaves some lingering question marks.
Now, although he may not return to his former All-NBA self, he can still be great for Washington. If Isaiah can return to half of his old self, the Wizards could strike gold.
With this season being a developmental year for the Wizards, Thomas has every chance to rehabilitate his career at a good pace. If he plays well, he might be a guy Washington wants to keep around if they attempt to run back a Wall/Beal core in 2020.
If Thomas plays well (but not too well) he could be a cheap, viable option to bring back as a scoring punch off the bench when John Wall returns. He is a guy who’s shown in the past that once he gets going he’s hard to stop. The question is, can he get still get going?
With high hopes for Thomas as a good player and a good locker room presence, there’s a lot of potentials for Thomas to have a big year. Although some may not expect it, this season might not be Thomas’ last one in Washington.
