Total minutes played by Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves

Coming off of the 159-158 thriller against the Houston Rockets, it seemed like a safe assumption that the Wizards would come out a bit more inspired in their next home game. Especially on the defensive end.

Things were looking a little brighter after the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ Karl-Anthony Towns was suspended for two games after an altercation with Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. The suspension left the Timberwolves without their All-Star big man and the centerpiece of the offense for their matchup with the Wizards.

The defense should look even better without having to worry about KAT. Right? Wrong.

Even without their All-Star, the Timberwolves had their way with the Washington defense. It’s one thing to give up boatloads of points to James Harden. He does it to everyone. But giving up 20 points to Robert Covington in 19 minutes, and another 20 to the rookie Jarrett Culver in 26 minutes? There’s no excusing that.
