In a quality 115-99 win over the Detroit Pistons on Monday night, the Washington Wizards ran essentially a ten-man rotation. Will this be the norm moving forward?
During a convincing win against the Detroit Pistons, the return of CJ Miles and the addition of Isaiah Thomas in the starting lineup created something very interesting for the Wizards: an effective ten-man rotation.
The Wizards started the season with a lot of injuries, which forced them to get creative with their early-game rotations. The ones we saw on display versus Detroit were completely different from the ones we saw in the first five games. With just about everybody healthy (outside of Jordan McRae), the Wizards have an interesting situation on their hands. They have a lot of capable players at their disposal who could make an argument for legitimate minutes moving forward.
Scott Brooks is going to have to make some decisions here. The Wizards have a number of young prospects who they want to develop this season, but will there be enough minutes for everyone?
Now obviously the team leaders in minutes will be the usual suspects. Bradley Beal and Thomas Bryant will command starting minutes and, assuming he continues his quality play, so will Rui Hachimura. However, beyond that, there are a few different positions where multiple guys could see the floor. Scott Brooks has the chance to get creative with how he runs his rotation and uses different players. With a few question marks, let’s take a look at some of the rotation flexibility this team will have moving forward.
