Who starts at Point Guard?

Up until the game versus Detroit, the Wizards had been rolling with Ish Smith as the starter and letting Isaiah Thomas ease his way back from injury. After a stellar few games off the bench, IT was thrown into the starting lineup against Detroit where he looked a little shaky. He finished with nine points on 4-12 shooting and six assists. Moving forward, whoever starts (and finishes) at point guard will most likely, be based on how Scott Brooks wants his team to play.

Smith, a career backup, has always been a floor general type of point guard. He runs the floor and is a solid passer. He won’t take over games most nights, but you can rely on Smith. IT, on the other hand, is more of that scoring threat who can heat up at any time.

With two very different point guards, it would not come as too much of a shock to see both of these guys being interchangeable depending on the opponent. If Scott Brooks believes down the stretch he needs a microwave scorer on the floor to boost the team, expect to see IT on the court. If Bradley Beal or Thomas Bryant can carry the scoring, expect to see Ish manning the offense and feeding the hot hand.

The point guard position for Washington is going to come down to situational gameplay and whoever has been playing well. A point guard by committee, if you will. Scott Brooks has the chance to see how things play out and make his decision as he goes along down the stretch.
