The Moritz Wagner Experience

Did anyone have Moritz Wagner as the most fun Washington Wizard to watch this season?!

Ok, maybe Bradley Beal is still the most entertaining Wizards. Hell, he’s one of the most entertaining players in the entire NBA. But Wagner isn’t far behind even if his brand of entertainment is vastly different than Beal’s.

While Beal dazzles with an endless array of offensive moves, Wagner prefers to make his name doing the dirty work. Sure, he puts up points. Wagner is currently fourth among all Wizards in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game, and ranks ninth in the NBA in three-point percentage. Moe’s making 47.5 percent of his 2.5 three-point attempts per game. Plus, he makes some great faces in the process.

However, the magic of watching Wagner play basketball doesn’t happen on the offensive end. Instead, it’s his unique ability to convert on one of the game’s least sexy plays that make us thankful for the Mortiz Wagner Experience.

Simply put, Wagner is a charge-taking extraordinaire.

The second-year center leads the NBA in charges taken (14), charges per game (0.88), and charges per 36 minutes (1.63). In the Wizards win against Phoenix, Wagner wasted no time getting his nightly charge call, drawing one on his first defensive possession of the night.

This makes two promising young centers that the Wizards have plucked from the purple and gold in as many years. I guess we should be thankful for the Los Angeles Lakers, too, huh?
