Tommy Sheppard

There is absolutely no way we can count our Washington Wizards blessings without thanking our lucky stars (and stripes!) for franchise savior and general manager Tommy Sheppard.

Expectations were low around this season and for a good reason. The franchise started the offseason with Sheppard still sporting the interim tag. Only John Wall, Bradley Beal, Ian Mahinmi, and Troy Brown Jr were locked in for the 2019-20 season, and cap space was limited, to say the least.

But Sheppard made creative move after creative move and has turned the Wizards into one of the NBA’s biggest early-season surprises.

Bertans and Wagner have been huge off the bench. Sheppard snagged both of them for next to nothing. Taking Rui Hachimura with the ninth pick may have raised eyebrows at the time, but it’s looking better and better with each passing game. Don’t be surprised to see Hachimura on an All-Rookie team by season’s end. He locked up Beal long term and re-signed Thomas Bryant, a duo that’s currently behind only LeBron James and Anthony Davis as the NBA’s most frequent assist pairing.

Thanks for everything, Tommy! Have a great Thanksgiving, D.C. Family.
