In a year focused on youth and development, the Washington Wizards seem to be preparing for the future. As this season continues to progress, it appears we might be getting a good look at what the team might look like in 2020-2021.

Dating back to the summer of 2019, the Washington Wizards’ front office,  led by Tommy Sheppard, has preached that this season would be measured through development and growth as opposed to wins and losses.

We are just about at the halfway point of the season and although the Wizards sit near the bottom of the East,  they have been able to get a good look at a lot of different players who may be useful moving forward. As of right now, it appears that many people believe the idea is to develop as many prospects as they can to pair with Bradley Beal and John Wall and return to contention next season.

Players like Rui Hachimura, Thomas Bryant, Troy Brown Jr., Davis Bertans, Mortiz Wagner, and Isaac Bonga have been given the opportunity to go out and prove why they should be a part of what the Wizards are building for next year and beyond. As the season continues, it appears that Tommy Sheppard has been very impressed with the players listed above and we may be starting to see a teaser of what the Wizards may look like for 2020-2021.

With the inevitable return of All-Star Point Guard John Wall and a top-ten lottery pick, the Wizards have the potential to be right back in the mix for playoff contention in the East. Bradley Beal is turning into a bonafide star and with everyone at full health, we may be able to see this team return to the ‘Death Row DC’ era that we saw just a few seasons ago.

With the continued growth of some of the current players, there is some excitement among Wizards fans as to what we could see come next season. With a team that has an interesting mix of veterans and youth, this team in DC may have something brewing.

With all that being said, let’s take a look at what the starters and bench may look like for your 2020-2021 Washington Wizards!
