Washington Wizards 2020-21: Who will make the cut next season?
By Jack Skolnik
Starting Point Guard: John Wall
The return that everyone has been waiting for! As we all know John Wall tore his Achilles and has not played since December of 2018. Since then, there has been a lot of question marks surrounding Wall and the player he may return as after such a devastating injury.
However, over the past few months there have been multiple instances that show how well Wall’s recovery is coming along. He appears to be in a good place in his rehab and there has even been some speculation that he may be ready sooner than originally anticipated.
Although Wall is starting to look healthier and healthier there is no real reason to rush him back especially in a season like the one that the Wizards are currently having. Making sure Wall is 100% healthy is the number one priority and the Wizards medical staff seem to think the same thing.
As Wall prepares for his return, regardless of if he looks exactly the same as he did pre-injury, he can still provide a lot of on-court value. With Bradley Beal taking the front seat as the Wizards’ franchise guy, John Wall will have more opportunities to ease back into things and adjust his game accordingly. He is still a top point guard in the NBA and still has a lot to offer on the floor.
Regardless of the injury or his super-max contract, Wall still has the work ethic and skill set to be an asset for Washington. Moving forward, the Wizards will continue to make sure that John Wall is ready to go, whether that means this season or next.
Although we still may not know when John Wall will return, it is safe to say he’ll be the starting point guard for the Wizards next season. He has the opportunity to come back with a vengeance and prove a lot of doubters wrong. Wizards fans should be excited about what’s to come!
