Washington Wizards 2020-21: Who will make the cut next season?
By Jack Skolnik
Starting Power Forward: Rui Hachimura
The starting power forward position for next season should go to the exact same person who got it for this season. Up to this point in his rookie season, Rui has provided flashes of why he can ve a very solid PF in this league. He has already improved his 3 point shooting which was a weakness of his upon getting drafted. He has a knack for getting to the rim and has shown some viable improvements on the defensive end as well.
One of the best things about Rui, is at the age of 21 as an older rookie, Rui has shown that he has a very high floor. Even if he may not always perform at an all-star level, he should always be able to perform as a complementary piece at the very worst.
Although currently on the mend with a groin injury, Rui has been a breath of fresh air for the young Wizards. He plays hard and gives 100% effort every minute that he is out on the floor. As more of a stretch 4, Rui should have the chance to continue to grow at a good pace while still being able to contribute.
As a lottery pick, Rui should be given endless opportunities to go out and show why he was the #9 pick in this past year’s draft. Moving forward he will still need to work on his outside shooting and absolutely has to become a better passer. But with the way he has already grown thus far, there is no reason to think that he will not improve.
Although some may not think Hachimura will be a perennial All-Star he still has the type of game that would be helpful for any team. As the Wizards start to climb back into contention in the East, Rui will be a vital piece to the new-look Wizards.
