The Washington Wizards have some decisions to make ahead of the 2020 trade deadline. Let’s revisit some of the deadline deals the Wizards have made over the past few years.

With the February 6 trade deadline just a few weeks away, teams are preparing for their final push. Whether that be trying to add that final piece for a playoff run or looking to add some draft capital for a rebuild, the trade deadline is a very hectic time for a lot of teams. One team that has been very active around the deadline over the past few years has been our Washington Wizards.

The most recent deadline deal that the Wizards made was the 2019 deal that sent Otto Porter to Chicago for Bobby Portis, Jabari Parker, and a future 2nd round pick. Earlier this week, Wiz of Awes’ Ethan Smith wrote an article about this deal and how the Wizards made out in hindsight. In what was essentially a salary dump to get rid of OP’s contract, Washingtons’ thought process was geared towards the future.

However, prior to this 2019 deal, the Wizards have recently used the deadline primarily to do what’s best for them in the short-term. They have tried to make a few deals around the deadline to bolster their squad ahead of the playoffs to provide a little more depth. Sometimes it has worked, sometimes it has not.

The trade deadline is always a tricky time for all teams involved, and sometimes desperations can result in some great deals and some horrendous deals. Regardless of how the deal may go over, the deadline will still come and go, and the results could alter a team’s future both in the short and the long term.

The Wizards are just another team that has been on this carousel over the past few seasons. We thought for these reasons, it would be fun to take a look at some of the deals the Wizards made at the deadline before the Porter deal.

With that being said, let’s dive into a few of those trades…
