2. Test the Isaiah Thomas Market

This pains me to say, because not only is he a fantastic man, but I firmly believe Isaiah Thomas deserves a place in this league to call home long-term. I just don’t think D.C. is the right fit for him, and it’d be a sensible move to try to piece together a deal for him before the February 6th deadline.

With the emergence of Ish Smith, Gary Payton II, and even the development of Troy Brown Jr., IT’s services are simply not needed in the Washington Wizards’ backcourt as of right now. Despite not quite fitting in a backcourt oozing with potential, Thomas has managed to make himself a free agent target for teams to keep an eye on, although he’s yet to return to the All-Star level he played at as a Boston Celtic.

More. The IT experiment has failed. light

This season, Thomas has shot over 40% from the field and 41% from deep, by far the most accurate average of his career thus far. Combined with his 12.3 points and over 3 assists per game, Thomas has proven that he at least can be a quality role player on any team in the NBA.

Because of his play this season, the Wizards could probably receive a nice package for IT by the deadline, which would be a win-win for the Wiz and IT. The Wizards receive one or two new faces in the locker room, and Thomas gets a fresh start with a new team that has the space for him on the roster.
