4. Don’t bite on Tristan Thompson

I still haven’t forgiven former general manager Ernie Grunfeld for trading away Kelly Oubre Jr. for Trevor Ariza. As trade talks about center Tristan Thompson continue to heat up, I can’t help but think back to when we gave up a budding talent in order to acquire a veteran player to make a playoff push, which is what makes me hesitant to think about possibly making that same mistake again.

According to analysts Brian Windhorst and Candace Buckner, the Wizards have been linked to the 28-year-old big man, who has had a solid year on a sub par Cleveland Cavaliers team.

As much as I’d love to see the Washington Wizards make the playoffs even as an 8th seed, I don’t think making the playoffs is worth giving up a draft pick or a valuable player on the squad. Although Tristan Thompson would bring a championship pedigree to a relatively inexperienced Wizards team, the Wizards would have to give up a solid piece of their future for only a few years of production.

Yes, maybe I’m just still bitter and traumatized about the loss of Kelly Oubre Jr., but I would stay away from Tristan Thompson unless Cleveland makes Washington an offer that they can’t refuse.
