Somehow landing picks 1,2, or 3 in the 2020 NBA Draft

Grade: A-

Tanking is always an option, and of course this would be exactly the opposite of an “A grade” for most teams. But losing as many games as possible and falling in the standings to eventually receive one of the top picks in the 2020 draft is a good outcome for this Washington Wizards team.

This is not an ideal scenario for fans, but it would give this team hope for next year with Bertans, Wall, Beal and a top-3 pick. This lineup could easily challenge for the 6th seed next year, but it still would not be as good as the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets or Toronto Raptors.

This would make for a miserable last 2 months of the season for the fans and the players, but if it works out it could be worth it. I think the potential negatives far outweigh the benefit of like a 10% chance to get a good pick.

If the Washington Wizards end up losing a lot and do not fare well in the lottery, they would potentially anger and have to trade Beal, and build bad habits into their young players. This path would be more risky, but if successful could result in a miracle.
