1. John Wall wins the NBA Slam Dunk Contest (2014)

This one should not come as too much of a surprise!

The 2014 NBA All-Star weekend was definitely a busy one for John Wall. Not only was he named to his first All-Star team, but he also got the chance to compete in the dunk contest.

If you remember, 2014 was the year of that strange contest format where it was ahead to head team format. John linked up with Paul George and Terrance Ross to represent the East. They went up against Damian Lillard, Ben Mclemore, and Harrison Barnes for the West.

To remind you, the format went like this. Each team would have a freestyle round where they had to incorporate each other into each dunk. The East won the opening round lead by an off the shot clock off the bounce dunk by Paul George. They also had a very lovely George to Wall to Ross finish that gave them the lead going into the next round.

The following round was a 1v1 style contest where each dunker in the East would go head to head with a dunker from the West. Terrance Ross won his first matchup against Dame Lillard, and Paul George easily beat Harrison Barnes.

This lead to the conclusion being Ben Mclemore vs. John Wall. Mclemore began the round with a very nice dunk in which he jumped over Shaquille O’Neal, who was sitting on a throne while Mclemore wore a crown.

After Mclemore received a 47 out of 50, Wall got the chance to win the whole thing if he could beat that. After a solid dunk by Mclemore, it would be tough for Wall to top, but boy was he up for the challenge.

With the help of mascot G-Wiz, John capped off the evening with the dunk of the night. With G-Wiz standing near the rim with the ball above his head, John got a running start before jumping over G-Wiz, grabbing the ball, cocking the ball down to his feet, and finishing with a reverse slam.

It was by far the dunk of the night, and it showed when the judges gave John the only 50 of the night. John danced on the sideline with G-Wiz to finish off an interesting dunk contest won by the East.

Now with the East clearly winning the contest in this team format, there was still the fan vote to decide the ‘Dunker of the Night.’

In a landslide highlighted by his reverse slam over G-Wiz, John Wall won the dunk contest.

Although the format was a bit strange, John was clearly the man of the night, and winning the dunk contest was definitely the most fun moment of Johns All-Star career.
