The All-Stars

Devin Booker

So far, we’ve looked at some great shooters, but we haven’t looked at any All-Stars. That changes now.

Technically, Devin Booker was not selected to be an All-Star starter or reserve. However, Damian Lillard suffered a small injury in his final game before the All-Star Break and Booker has been chosen to replace him in the game and the three-point contest.

Booker was one of the names alongside Bradley Beal on the All-Star snub lists. Luckily for Booker, he wasn’t a snub for long. However, that’s not exactly good news for the rest of the three-point competition.

At 35.8 percent this season, Booker has the lowest three-point field goal percentage in the contest. With just 5.4 three-point attempts per game, he shoots them less frequently than the rest of the field, too. But don’t sleep on Booker. It’s no secret that the dude is a walking bucket. And he’s a former three-point champion, too.

This will be Booker’s third time competing in this competition. First as a rookie in 2016. Then he won the whole thing in 2018 with one of the highest point totals in the history of the competition.

Trae Young

There’s no official fan favorite in this contest, but you’ve got to think Trae Young has the most people pulling for him. The All-Star starter was one of the Eastern Conference’s top vote-getters for this year’s All-Star Game. And, as a result, Young is going to be busy in Chicago.

Young will be participating in three of the five events open to current players: the All-Star game, the Rising Stars competition, and the three-point contest. The Rising Stars contest might be where he shines the brightest, but Young has the chance to become one of the youngest three-point contest champions in NBA history if he takes care of business on Saturday night.

So far this season, Young has attempted the fifth most three-point field goals and made the sixth-most three-pointers in the NBA. Only Duncan Robinson has made more on fewer attempts. In his second NBA season, Young is already one of the NBA’s best shooters and is quickly establishing himself as a superstar.

Young shoots about half of his field goals from beyond the arc, chucking it up more than nine times per game from long-range. That volume, along with his 37 percent three-point percentage, has Young averaging 29.7 points per game. Only James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo score more.

Young’s brand is strong, so a three-point crown might not elevate his name like it would for Devonte’ Graham or it did for Joe Harris. But it would help add to the fast-growing legend around one of the NBA’s next great point guards.
