Another great question from the guys over at @Urbansportsscene in regards to the Latvian Laser!

As he has already shown this far into the season, Bertans is one of the best shooters in the entire league. He is shooting 42 percent from three-point land this season and is averaging career-highs in every almost every major category. With all this being said, I think this is just the beginning for him.

Bertans has clearly been a sniper this season and moving forward there is no reason to think he cannot continue this pace.

And why will this continue? Because John Wall is coming. As one of the best passers in the league, Wall has shown that one of his biggest strengths is finding his shooters.

Over the years, Wall has provided a vast spike in shooting numbers for the likes of Martell WebsterDrew Gooden, Otto Porter, and Jared Dudley. Now out of all of the guys Wall has played with, Bertans is by far the best shooter he will get the chance to share the floor with. It’s not close.

With his ability to run the floor at 6’10, Bertans will be a perfect fit next to Wall, and it sounds like Wall feels the same way. He will get even more opportunities to shoot than he is currently getting once Wall returns.

Assuming they re-sign him for next season, Bertans has the ability to lead the league in three-point shooting. That’s how good of a shooter I believe he is and that’s how good of a fit next to Wall I think he will be.

But it’s not all about three-ball with Bertans. Outside of his shooting ability, I believe Bertans is an underrated defender. With the Wizards desperately trying to improve on that end, Bertans can help. He is also a solid passer for a power forward, averaging two assists per game right.

Bertans has not reached his full potential, yet, but we’ll get to see him fully unleased if he’s around next year to play with Wall. He has already shown a huge improvement in his first year in DC after spending three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, and I believe he will only get better.

This is only the beginning for the Latvian Laser.
