4 Questions that still hover over the Washington Wizards during hiatus
By Ethan Smith
The Washington Wizards and the rest of the NBA — like most things — are on hold right now. That being said, basketball will be back eventually…right?
The Washington Wizards, like the rest of the NBA, have not played a basketball game in over a week. If and when play resumes is still a mystery. For now, social distancing is far more important than slam dunks as we all try and stay safe and healthy amidst an unprecedented and uncertain time.
Eventually, we will get back to “normal”, but for now, the novel coronavirus has forced everyone to press pause on the action. But even if the Wizards aren’t taking the court, there are still questions about the present and the future of the franchise.
The Wizards went into the season with low expectations and a lot of questions. The goal was to develop some prospects and answer some of those questions. And to a degree, they’ve done that.
Will Bradley Beal stay a Wizard for long? Yes. He signed an extension just before the season began. Was Rui Hachimura the right pick? It looks like they got this one correct. It will be an outrage if he’s left off the All-Rookie teams. Can Isaiah Thomas still be a thing? Unfortunately not.
And they’ve stuck to their promise of developing young talent. Hachimura isn’t the only guy under 24 getting serious minutes. Isaac Bonga, Moritz Wagner, Thomas Bryant, Troy Brown Jr, and even Jerome Robinson are all under 24 and have all been integral parts of the rotation.
But there are still questions left to be answered. The future is far from crystal clear. And while the suspended season can officially kill whatever “playoff hopes” may have been on life support around the nation’s capital, it can’t kill these questions.
Here are the four questions still hovering over the Wizards during the NBA hiatus.
