Goal for Isaac Bonga: Keep letting it fly

The most interesting player on this list was saved for last for a good reason. After coming over from the Los Angeles Lakers at just 19 years old, the Wizards needed to figure out what they had in Bonga.

As a very raw, young prospect, Bonga oozes with potential. The Lakers tried to turn the 6’8 Bonga into a point guard while he was in LA, which the Wizards quickly dismissed.

Since joining the Wizards, Bonga has played and looked most comfortable on the wing. By far the best defender on the team, Bonga guards multiple positions and guards them quite well.

When the Wizards decided that Bonga was better suited for playing on the wing, they knew that his shooting would need a fair amount of work. During his time in LA, Bonga shot…zero (0) percent from three.

Luckily, the Wizards development staff has a solid track record of improving shooters (See Otto Porter, Kelly Oubre, Martell Webster, Jared Dudley). Since the start of the season, Bonga has gotten much better.

Although a small sample size (about one three-point shot per game), Bonga is shooting 52 percent from the field and 40 percent from three this season. He is also shooting, get ready for it 48(!!!) percent on corner threes.

Keep that confidence up. Bonga!. Keep looking for your shot and keep letting it fly. Although the sample size is small, the proof is in the numbers. Bonga’s shot has improved mightily, and he needs to continue the trend.

The fact that Bonga is looking for his own shot, at all, is a vast improvement from earlier in the season. On offense, shooting seemed like the last thing Bonga wanted to do back in November.

While he is nowhere near a finished product, his jumper and confidence are improving. While playing in Orlando, offense – not defense – needs to be a top priority for Bonga. Find the spots where he shoots best from and move from there.

Shooters keep shooting. Isaac Bonga may not be considered a shooter yet, on most teams in most situations, he should be viewed as a shooter for the Wizards in the bubble.

He brings a lot to the table defensively already. With an added three-point shot, Bonga can become another versatile player for the Wizards.

Keep shooting Isaac!!!
