Free throws aren’t free

The Wizards will be without Bradley Beal and Davis Bertans throughout their time in Orlando, whether that be eight games or more. Somewhere, they’ll need to find the 36 points those two contributed on average.

They can’t make it all up at the foul line, but since the Wizards will need to find supplemental scoring wherever they can get it, knocking shots down at the foul line will be essential when the regular season restarts. Unfortunately, Beal and Bertans are two of the team’s best free-throw shooters, too.

The Wizards shot ten more free throws than the Clippers during their scrimmage but weren’t able to capitalize on those trips to the charity stripe.

The Wizards made just 20 of their 36 free throws, a putrid 55.6 percent. Oddly, the Wizards have been one of the NBA’s better foul shooting teams this season. As it stands now, they rank sixth in both free throw attempts and makes per game, and have the 11th best team free throw percentage.

Hopefully, the early struggle is just rust, something they can shake during these scrimmages. These points are supposed to be free.
