Washington Wizards 2020 NBA Draft: Devin Vassell profile

Washington Wizards need an upgrade at small forward
The Wizards are due for an upgrade at the small forward position. Isaac Bonga held down the starting small forward spot for most of the 2019-2020 season with 49 starts in 66 games. Bonga is a tremendous defender, but his ceiling is limited on the offensive end. He averaged only five points per game last season. Vassell would provide Washington with a player whose skill set is similar to the likes of Otto Porter Jr., Kelly Oubre Jr., and Trevor Ariza.
These three players complemented stars John Wall and Bradley Beal well during their tenures because of their defensive versatility and ability to knock down spot-up jumpers. Since Wall and Beall are still the primary ball handlers, Vassell will not have to create his own shot often.
This means he can play more to his strengths. Space out for open threes while Wall and Beal drive, and cut for easy lay-ups and dunks when the lane is open. Most of his energy will be spent on the defensive end and in transition. If Vassell is still there at nine, I see no reason why the Wizards should pass on him. The fit is seemingly too perfect!
