The Washington Wizards need to juice up their roster if they want to contend next season. It starts with the NBA Draft.

The NBA draft is always one of the hardest things to predict in basketball. Players with decorated college and high school careers begin working out for pro teams, and scouts come to decide if these guys have what it takes to play in the NBA.

Some guys become stars, and others don’t. But regardless of what they do become, looking into the crystal ball of a young NBA player’s future is extremely difficult. Things can change in the blink of an eye when it comes to prospects and draft potential.

In November, I wrote an early version of this very same article about three players who may be in play for the Wiz for the 2020 draft. Just ten months later, it doesn’t look like any of them will be in the Wizards’ draft range.

This goes to show how quickly things can change for both NBA teams and NBA prospects.

With a critical offseason upon us, the significance of this draft pick can not be understated. This is not the type of draft where the Wizards need to find a star or cornerstone to lead their franchise, but they must find a contributor—somebody who can help them both now and in the future.

The Wizards can’t botch this pick, and they know it. The ninth pick is not the best pick to have, but there are more than enough guys who can help them.

With that, let’s dive in.
