Washington Wizards: Snubbed again! Bradley Beal deserves more respect
By Jamal Bedell
Bradley Beal the Record Breaker
During the 2018-19 season, Bradley Beal became the first Washington Wizard player to average 25 points, five assists, and five rebounds per game for an entire season. However, this season was even more memorable! In 57 games, the two-time All-Star averaged 30.5 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.2 rebounds on 45.5 percent shooting from the field. Beal’s improved playmaking was a surprising revelation. The Wizards ran the offense through him often this season and he stepped up to the challenge. As the season progressed, Beal became more comfortable setting up his teammates while still scoring the basketball at an extremely high clip.
All in all, Bradley Beal’s scoring was by far the most impressive part of his game. Before the All-Star break, he was averaging an impressive 29.1 points per game with six rebounds and four assists. February was his most remarkable month of the season as he went on to average a whopping 36 ppg in 11 games. From January to March, Beal went on an incredible scoring streak and became the only player in Washington Wizards franchise history to score 25 points in 21 straight games. This was just one of his many career milestone’s this season.
Coming into the year, the most points Beal had scored in a game was 51 against the Portland Trail Blazers in 2017-2018. That all changed on February 23 against the Chicago Bulls. In a 126-117 loss, Beal scored 53 points and had five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. He shot 55.5% from the field, 45.5% from three and made 18 out of his 20 attempts from the charity stripe. This performance was absolutely insane! But somehow, Beal outdid himself the very next night! After dropping 53 points against the Bulls, Beal again surpassed his career-high with 55 points in an overtime loss to the Bucks 140-137. Check out the highlights from both games down below:
Beal became the 1st player to score 50 points on consecutive nights since the late great Kobe Bryant in 2007. Rest in peace to the Black Mamba. Over the course of the year, Beal recorded 21 games with 30+ points, eight games with 40+ points, and two games with 50+ points. He passed Jeff Malone for 2nd on the Wizards all-time scoring list this season and now only trails Elvin Hayes, who scored 15,551 points as a Washington Bullet. So although it may not have been a successful year team-wise, Beal sure did reach new heights individually.
So why didn’t he get any All-NBA love?
