We can all dream, can’t we.

There’s not a ton of consensus in the 2020 NBA Draft. But one thing that has been fairly consistent is that James Wiseman is the best big man available. There was a time when he was considered the clear number one pick in this class, but his stock has dropped slightly. Not enough to knock him out of the lottery, though. And probably not enough to knock him out of the top five.

Few mocks have Wiseman falling all the way to number nine. If he does, it will be one of the true surprises of the draft. Wiseman recently revealed that he has only worked out for the Golden State Warriors and the Charlotte Hornets, possibly a sign that he knows he won’t be on the board after the third pick. But stranger things have happened, and draft season is full of smoke screens.

If Wiseman, by some miraculous grace of God, is available at nine, the Wizards need to run to the podium and make the pick before anyone realizes what the hell is going on.

Wiseman is the picture-perfect center prospect: 7’1″ tall with a 7’6″ wingspan. Incredibly athletic. Moves well in space. Blocks every basketball that comes near him. Dunks every basketball you throw towards the rim. And maybe has some shooting potential? At just 19 years old, there’s plenty of room for Wiseman to grow, too.

If the Wizards are going to trade up for anyone in this year’s draft, James Wiseman is the one to do it for.
