2020 NBA Free Agency: 3 Reasons why the Washington Wizards should sign Justin Holiday
By Jamal Bedell
You can never have enough veteran, three-point shooters on your roster. Here’s why the Wizards should explore signing forward Justin Holiday in Free Agency.
The Washington Wizards don’t have much wiggle room this offseason. They’ll have to be creative with any signing or trade because they have very little salary-cap space. The first order of business should be determining whether or not sharpshooter Davis Bertans returns. He was a key piece to their team last year. It’s somewhat of a tricky situation since he’s an unrestricted free agent but they own his Bird Rights so that’s a positive.
Washington has to ensure they have a backup plan just in case negotiations don’t go as planned and they’re unable to retain Bertans. It would be a huge loss to their team but they must be prepared for the worst. Thankfully, the Wizards have a little spending flexibility with their mid-level exception. This allows them to go over-the-cap to sign a free agent from another team to a contract worth more than the minimum salary. That’s HUGE for a team that currently has the 4th lowest available salary-cap space in the league.
Washington’s staff has to be very calculated when filling out the rest of the roster. Upgrading the defense should be their main priority. However, adding some more shooters wouldn’t be bad either. There are a few options on the market that could fill both of these roles. But there’s one player in particular who may come at the perfect price due to his age and experience.
