Fee Agency Move #2: Sign Caleb Homesley

Raul Neto wasn’t the only guard the Washington Wizards added on day two of free agency. Caleb Homesley, a 6’6 guard out of Liberty University, signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Wizards. Exhibit 10s are one-year, non-guaranteed deals worth the league minimum.

With the Wall rumors dominating anything happening around the Wizards, the Homesley signing is likely an insurance policy as he is yet another guard in a crowded Wizards’ backcourt. He’s an insurance policy with a great resume, though. Homesley is a two-time All-Atlantic Sun and All-Atlantic Sun Tournament team member (’19, ’20), as well as the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and Tournament MVP in 2020.

Homesley injured his knee during his sophomore season and was awarded a medical redshirt. As a result, Homesley actually spent five years at Liberty. In his senior season, Homesley averaged 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists as the leading scorer on the Atlantic Sun Conference’s best team. Homesley shot 36.9 percent from three and 47.4 percent from the field.

As things currently stand, the Wizards have more than 15 players on their roster, so they’ll need to widdle things down before opening night. Who knows if Homesley is on the roster for game one, but there are no limits on training camp numbers. It’s a low-risk move. Not a team altering move, but not a terrible move, either.

Final Grade: C+
