We’ll see Russell Westbrook in the community.

One of the many reasons why the D.C. community embraced John Wall throughout his entire time with the Wizards was because of his tremendous work in the community. Through the John Wall Foundation, Wall was able to touch the lives of countless members of the city through his various philanthropic efforts. Wins and losses aside, the Wizards were lucky to have him.

Luckily, the Wizards are getting another point guard that is committed to making an impact not just on the court but off of it, as well. When asked about how he defines legacy, Westbrook responded. “My legacy, I believe, is how many people I impact and inspire across the world.”

Westbrook looked back on his own life experience to explain why community service is so important to him. “I’m very in tune because I grew up in underserved communities. I understand what it’s like, I understand the struggle, I understand what it means to be an African-American in society.”

When asked if there was anything about himself that Wizards fans should know, Westbrook cut straight to the point: “I like to give back.”

The Wizards traded away a point guard that was a visible leader in the community. No one will ever replace the great work that Wall did in D.C. By Westbrook’s own definition, Wall left a powerful and lasting legacy in the District. However, it’s great to know the city will be getting another great player and charitable man in Russell Westbrook.
