Takeaway #3: Bradley Beal’s 47 points not enough

Washington suffered another disappointing loss despite the valiant effort from Bradley Beal. The Wizards have now lost 10 consecutive games when Beal scores at least 40 points. Last night’s loss put him past Walt Bellamy (9) and Wilt Chamberlain (8) for the most consecutive losses in 40-point games. That’s absurd! Basketball is a team sport but Beal is now 6-19 in games where he scores 40 or more points. That’s the worst record of any player with at least ten 40-point games! I’m not sure what more he can do to help his team win but things need to turnaround. And fast!

In a shortened 72-game season, Washington is running out of time to right the ship. It’s looking more and more likely that they’ll miss the playoffs for the 3rd straight season. In his postgame interview, Beal was asked by a reporter if he was frustrated and he just simply responded by rhetorically asking, “Is the sky blue.”

Losing is never fun. And it’s clear Beal may be starting to regret his decision to commit to D.C. by signing the 2-year extension on October 18th, 2019. GM Tommy Sheppard has repeatedly stated that the intention is to build around the 2-time All-Star but how much patience will he have if the Wizards can’t climb up the Eastern Conference standings. Teams will soon start calling about Beal’s availability if Washington continues to pile up losses. Sheppard may have to finally give in and consider some trade offers if the season continues to head in a downward spiral.
