The Washington Wizards Must Consider Otto Porter’s Health

Now, although he may be a solid fit on the floor right now, the biggest question mark surrounding Porter would be his health moving forward. He has only appeared in 16 games this season after a lower back injury took him out in early February.

He is in the process of working his way back into action, and lingering injuries shouldn’t be taken lightly. Outside of his back injury this season, Porter missed most of last season with a foot injury.

For those of you keeping score at home, Porter has only appeared in 45 games during his Chicago Bulls tenure, which started 49 months ago. That is not overly inspiring.

Porter is 27 and already has a pretty long injury history. It would not make much sense to give a roster spot to a player who may spend most of his time in street clothes.

If the Wizards truly want to compete for the playoffs, they need guys who can come in right away and contribute for the rest of the season and throughout the postseason. So if they believe Porter’s injury bug may continue, they should stay away.

But, if the Wizards think Porter can stay healthy and they can get him on a small contract, he may be the perfect fit. If he can stay healthy and continue to do what he has done his entire career, he would be exactly what the Wizards need right now. But that’s a big IF.
