Ed Davis: Center, Minnesota Timberwolves

Ed Davis would help the Washington Wizards primarily in the rebounding department, an area where they need a lot of help. The Wizards trio of centers is routinely outrebounded by their opponents and even their own teammates. Among active Wizards, Robin Lopez — who averages the most rebounds per game among the three centers — ranks fifth behind Westbrook, Beal, Hachimura, and Avdija. Woof.

Davis would come in and immediately turn things around on the boards. Since entering the NBA in 2010, Davis has been a rebounding machine. The lowest rebounding-percentage of his career (16.1) would be well above the best rebounding rate by any Wizards with at least 100 minutes this season. Westbrook currently holds that title with a team rebounding percentage of 14.8. Davis hasn’t been below 19 since the 2016-17 season.

Davis is obviously not a part of the future for the rebuilding Minnesota Timberwolves. He’s recorded a DNP in each of the team’s last 19 games and 21 of their last 23. This season, Davis is averaging 2.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 13.9 minutes per game. He has appeared in just 19 contests.

The 31-year-old journeyman won’t permanently solve any frontcourt issues in D.C., but he’d be a fine bandage for the rest of the season that probably wouldn’t cost the Wizards much. Davis will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
