Washington Wizards: Can Things Get Any Worse?
By Jack Skolnik
Final Thoughts
Although most of the frustration is aimed at the front office and coaching staff, the play on the court cannot be ignored. Although playing better as of late, Russell Westbrook needs to figure things out. The midrange jumpers with 20 seconds still on the shot clock and the frequent turnovers absolutely kill this team.
Bradley Beal, who this team is supposed to look at as their leader, is having a great individual season: All-Star starter and will be All-NBA. However, it seems like in every postgame presser, Beal has something to say about the lack of defense or effort, and the blame is rarely pointed at himself.
Attitude reflects leadership, Mr. Beal.
You chose to be here, you chose not to ask for a trade, and you chose to sign that extension. So, just like John Wall did before you as the face of the franchise, you will have to face the music.
Realistically, this team is going nowhere fast. If they continue to let Beal and Westbrook run the show, maybe they have a shot at the play-in tournament, further pushing them into a cycle of mediocrity.
I have been a fan of this team for a long time and have witnessed some ugly seasons. But this one may be the ugliest: An owner who cares more about his hockey team, a GM who doesn’t have any interest in making changes to a 15-27 team, a coach who couldn’t make in-game adjustment if his life depended on it, and a roster comprised of false hope.
They say once you hit rock bottom, the only way you can go is up.
Go Wiz.
