Deni Avdija’s Top 3 Games: 130-109 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves

The win against the Minnesota Timberwolves in January was one of Deni Avdija’s best overall performances of his young career. He finished the game with a +32 net rating, which was a season and career-best. In less than 30 minutes of play, Avdija was able to make an impact in almost every facet of the game besides the scoring department.

Even though he only finished with a modest 11 points, he was efficient from beyond the arc,  shooting 3-5 from three and 4-7 from the field. His scoring still needs to develop but Deni can be impactful in so many different ways. He attacked the glass aggressively all game against the Wolves and finished with seven rebounds. He also dished out three assists and only turned the ball over one time, so he wasn’t force anything.

Avdija showcased his diverse skillset in the win but the most impressive takeaway was his defensive potential. Not only was he locking up his man in one-on-one defense but he was also extremely active in the passing lanes and finished the game with three steals. For a first-year player, Deni already has great defensive instincts and a nose for the ball. He may pick up some unnecessary fouls here and there but that’s just how it is when you’re a rookie. He’ll learn.

All Avdija needs to do is continue to be in the right position on both ends of the floor and not get frustrated. Transitioning from the  EuroLeague to the NBA is never easy but he quickly showed in only his sixth game that he was more than up to the challenge!

Final Stats: 27 minutes; 11 points; 4-7 FG; 3-5 3PT; 7 rebounds; 3 assists; 3 steals, 1 turnover, +32
