Wizards Contenders will Call About – No. 2: Montrezl Harrell

Montrezl Harrell is back in the Wizards rotation and appears to have not missed a beat. After missing some time, the former Sixth Man of the Year award winner scored 16 points in each of his first two games back on the court.

Across those two games Harrell put in 14 of his 18 field goal attempts (78 percent). In his third and most recent performance, Harrell put up 18 points and 7 rebounds on 6-9 shooting from the field.

It’s safe to say the energetic big man is working his way right back to where he was prior to missing time. Due to that, the Wizards are inevitably going to hear from contending teams or teams looking to jump into contending status about the availability of Harrell.

Will it lead to anything? It’s hard to imagine how it could. Although the Wizards have a suddenly deep Center rotation, Harrell brings a unique skillset and level of production to the group.

Not only is he a great Sixth Man and efficient offensive player, he also brings energy like few big men can. All of his offense makes up for what he lacks on the defensive end. When the team needs defense, they can go back to the long term Center of the franchise in Daniel Gafford.

When projecting the rest of the season, Harrell significantly increases this teams opportunity to make some noise in the East. That is why you can expect contenders to come calling. Recently, we’ve seen a heavy dose of Harrell and a heavy dose of the third big man inthe rotation, Thomas Bryant.

One can only play a handful of minutes on a nightly basis. Recently that has been Gafford. The young center is averaging just 10.8 minutes per game in his last five games played. Obviously, the Wizards still greatly value Harrell and his contributions.
