Washington Wizards Burning Questions: What is this Team’s Top Priority?

The question that must be asked but frankly couldn’t be answered even by those in the organization we have to assume. It’s so clear there’s no direction with this roster, staff and front office that one must wonder what exactly is priority number one?

The answer given by the team would likely be nonsense. While it could be what they believe, it’s unlikely to be the best thing to prioritize. The trade deadline is nearing and the Wizards have players that other teams are going to value.

Even if they are willing to move on from some of these guys, the next question is what’s the goal of the moves? The Wizards will need to be thinking about whether the assets they get back are for building while Beal is still around or building without him in the picture.

There’s also the possibility that the front office convinces themselves a back-end playoff appearance has value. Getting in the tournament but being eliminated will only keep the Wizards tuck in the middle, so this approach will only hold them back.

We’re going to find out the answer to this question fairly soon. Players like Montrezl Harrel must be traded in order to believe the priority is winning in the near future instead of falsely believing they could do anything this year.
