Spencer Dinwiddie’s time with the Washington Wizards may end in the quickest of fashions. Rumors have been flying regarding the first-year Wizards point guard, and if they are true, it would be beneficial for both sides to move on sooner rather than later.
The problem for the Wizards is the contract they just rewarded Dinwiddie with. He is in the first year of a three-year, $54 million contract, according to Spotrac.com.
Dinwiddie got the deal coming off of a serious injury and has not gotten back to where he was prior to the injury yet. That certainly can still happen, but NBA teams are not going to assume anything.
That means the cost for Dinwiddie could wind up being a bargain for a team in the not too distant future. Fit matters, as does compensation back to Washington. Some teams make a ton of sense while some require us to make some assumptions about what their plan is moving forward.
