Wizards Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Spencer Dinwiddie
Trade Destination for Wizards Guard Spencer Dinwiddie: Oklahoma City Thunder
When in doubt, call the Oklahoma City Thunder. They are the go to for salary dumps around the league and that isn’t changing any time soon. Not only because they continue to value any and every draft asset above all else but they also have proven capable of taking bad contracts and flipping them shortly after for more assets.
It’s incredible what they have done with salary dump players or bad contracts recently. Chris Paul was flipped for Russell Westbrook and draft compensation. Paul shortly after proved to be the one worth more, so he was flipped to the Phoenix Suns for significant assets after a short stint with the Thunder.
They can do a smiilar thing with Dinwiddie, although for a lot less than Paul was eventually traded for. Netting some assets now and reviving Dinwiddie’s value to flip him for more assets yet again would be the perfect course for the Thunder. They can do it, too.
If it didn’t pan out, they can keep him and continue focusing on their young players. They don’t have crazy commitments on the books. The only well played players are worth the money and still have significant potential.
Finally, the Thunder have a cap sheet that allows them to take Dinwiddie’s salary back without the need to jump through too many salary matching obstacles. It’ll simply come down to what compensation they want in order to take on Dinwiddie’s contract and get the Wizards off the hook.
If nothing else, they are a last resort if Washington has no better options but feel they must move him away from the team before the deadline. The Thunder prove the case that Dinwiddie will be gone if the internal problems are as bad as they’ve been rumored to be.
