Wizards 2022 Free Agent: Thomas Bryant

  • Thomas Bryant finds an opportunity with the San Antonio Spurs

After the surprising and sudden trade of Dejounte Murray, the Spurs appear to be fully committed to tearing things down and slowly building it all back up. We are likely far from seeing their final roster moves as free agency kicks off, and a number of veteran players could be on the move to give San Antonio more assets moving forward.

If they do flip their proven players for long-term assets, they could wind up in the market for a big man. Jakob Poeltl is a valued player and could get a nice return for the Spurs, so expect to see his name floating around in trade rumors in the next few weeks.

While he is still just 26, the Spurs may want to trade him now for picks and or cap space because they know he won’t be around when they turn the roster back around. If they open up a hole at the five, it would make sense for them to target former Wizard Thomas Bryant.

Bryant has shown his useful skillset on a number of occasions in his NBA career. He hasn’t put it together for a long enough stretch, but he has shown he’s capable of a lot and just needs the right situation.

For a cheap one to two-year contract, the Spurs could see what they can get out of the big man who hasn’t really gotten his shot for a long enough stretch of time.

Bryant will be 25 years old when next season starts and has put up over 14 points per game on 64.8 percent shooting during a season. He has an interesting offensive game and can be utilized to be a plus piece on the defensive end.

He’s the perfect low-risk, high-reward kind of player for a team like the Spurs. If not San Antionio, Bryant could land with a number of young teams that are looking to add any and every upside player possible. He could also receive interest from teams looking to win now that know what kind of an impact he can make if given the right opportunity.

Other Possibilities: Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors
